QRASA Enduro Rnd 1 – Geranium - Lisa Hoyle

The first of the SA Enduro series was held in Geranium on Sunday 29th April 2012. The sunny weather was perfect and the awesome track was both well selected and very nicely marked by the QRASA Enduro Committee.

With both a juniors and a seniors Enduro event being held, there were plenty of people willing to take on the sandy whoops and steep hill climbs on offer.

The fantastic track of 16.4 kilometre loops meant plenty of variety for riders with many winding bends, rail worthy sandy corners, trails along hill peaks and long, clean uphill climbs.

At just under 30 minutes a lap, I had to do 7 laps on my Can-am Outlander 4x4 over the three hour time allocation. Up against 6 fast QRASA ironmen, it was going to take a small miracle for me to ‘Steven Bradbury’ my way onto the podium, but there is much more to Enduro riding than winning ( like exhaustion, muscle fatigue and crying ) and I was looking forward to all of that.

Anyway, I gave it a good shot and rode the Outlander to my full potential each lap. I also used the Enduro to test my average speeds on the whoops and straights sections, so that I could get a feel of the types of speeds I would need to maintain to finish Finke in the 4 hour time slot, should I choose to enter Finke on the Outlander 4x4 this year.

By the end of the 7th lap I had continued my high standard of consistency by starting in 7th and finishing in 7th, but I had a great day with good people and as per usual, my Outlander performed brilliantly.

My quad riding activities are sponsored by BRP Australia, QuadSquad, Austraco, Sidchrome, CRC, and 47industries. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
