Chris Howard #946
2009 was an interesting if not challenging year for this young 18 year old from WA.
Having joined the Can Am X Team in January he then proceeded to have a good year on the race track with various results, and along the way his work proved to be of great assistance to him.
He has now been competing in ATV racing for a little over 4 years, entering many local events.
His most notable achievements for 2009 included:
2nd place in Class at Thumbpump 300, South Australia
2nd Outright at Thumbpump 300, South Australia
1st place in Class at Hyden Ironman 300
1st Outright at Hyden Ironman 300.
This up and coming young rider also had other 1st place podiums at Katanning, Beverley and Woodridge, a 2nd place podium at Bunbury, and some other pleasing results.
Chris also successfully completed another Finke Desert Race, taking his tally now to 3. This year’s result was 13th in Class, only falling marginally short of his previous year’s result. During his careeer he has previously completed the infamous Finke Desert Race in 2007, staking his claim at the time as the youngest to do so on a quad at the age of 16, had another successful crack at the big one in 2008 finishing 12th in Class.
2009 took Chris to many parts of Australia, including South Australia, Alice Springs and Port Hedland, not to mention many local events, to compete in events and saw the family travel some 20,270 kms around Australia to enable him to achieve his goals, making this the busiest years for all the family.
As Chris enters the 4th year of his Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship and turns 19 this year he is looking forward to again being a valuable member of the Can-am X Team on board the DS450 and is hoping to improve on his 2009 results.
Chris’s 2010 calendar is likely to include the 47industries Thumb Pump Off-road Series, The Finke Desert Race, Indee500, Hyden Ironman, Gash Dash and other local events, and promises to be another busy year.
